I am passionate about computers however I am also passionate about new technology that comes to fruition. There are countless technological innovations that are created every day by some of the brightest people in the world. It is exciting to see what the human race can come up with. However one particular project that has recently caught my eye is something that not only is great for our environment but is also resourceful and cheap to implement. It is one of those things that makes you ask yourself “Why haven’t we done this already?!?”.
Why not put solar panels on roads in order to harvest clean energy from the sun that can be put to better use? Scott and Julie Brusaw have made this a possibility with their solar panel roadways.
They have managed to produce a working prototype of their solar panel roadways which contain solar panels that are covered by a strong plastic shielding. They also possess advanced features such as sensors and LED’s programmed to light up and warn drivers of upcoming animals or pedestrians up ahead.
What makes solar roadways such a promising and elegant solution is the scale of its relevance and applicability. It has the ability to be programmed so that you can create and change road markings, parking spots or warnings on the panels instantly. This means that their roads can be customised for specific locale-based requirements and are thus theoretically suitable for roads everywhere across the globe. With the threat of global warming looming on the horizon, globally applicable solutions such as this will become more and more critical as time passes, as global warming is a global issue which definitely needs to be addressed at an international level. Solutions which cannot be implemented globally will not be nearly as effective at addressing global warming.
Solar roadways are a smart innovation that not only pays for itself but is also environmentally friendly and allows for better use of our planet’s resources. Going forward into humanity’s future, the finite nature of some of our most important resources means that we must make full use of renewable energy sources such as solar energy.
At this stage this project is being crowd funded and people are supporting this project which is great to see. If you want to show your support for this project and initiative please click on the link below and find out more about this awesome technological innovation.
