How to import a PST file to Outlook in Windows

For users who need to import a mailbox from a data file into their Outlook, then all you need to do is follow the instructions below. This guide is configured for Outlook 2010, 2013 and 2016.

Outlook 2013/2016

In Outlook, navigate to the File tab.

Select Open & Export from the menu.

In the Open & Export section of the menu, select Import/Export

Select Import from another program or file and click Next.

Click on Outlook Data File (.pst) and select Next.

If your file isn’t based in the ‘File to import’ section then click Browse.

Locate the data file you want to import to Outlook and select Open.

Back to the Import Outlook Data File dialog box, select Next.

You can select from the data file what folder you want to import or leave as is if you want all folders. We decide to import the items to the same folder in our mailbox. Click Finish.

Your data file has now been successfully imported into Outlook.

Outlook 2010

In Outlook, navigate to the File tab.

Select Open from the menu.

In the Open section of the menu, select Import.

In the Import and Export Wizard, select Import from another program or file and click Next.

Click on Outlook Data File (.pst) and select Next.

If your file to import appears in the text box then click Next. If your file isn’t based in the ‘File to import’ section then click Browse and open it as required in File Explorer.

You can select from the data file what folder you want to import or leave as is if you want all folders. We decide to import the items to the same folder in our mailbox. Click Finish.

Your data file has now been successfully imported into Outlook.
