If you want to free up hard drive space on your computer, you can either decrease the size or disable System Restore from Windows 7. However, disabling System Restore is not recommended as you won’t be able to restore your system if it crashes.
Click Start – Control Panel – System and Security
Select System and then click on System Protection
The System Properties dialog box opens. Select your System disc from the list under Protection Settings and click the Configure button.
Disable System Restore
Under the Restore Settings heading, choose the radio button option Turn off system protection. Click OK to continue.
A warning message box appears requesting confirmation that you wish to turn off System Restore. Click Yes.
Decrease the size of Disk space usage
Under Disk Space Usage, lower the maximum disk space usage used for system protection (minimum is 1%) and click OK to continue.
A warning message box appears stating that a few of your System Restore points will be deleted if you continue. Click Yes to continue.
