Sick of having to navigate to the recycle bin in Windows Explorer? Want easier access to it? Just follow these simple steps to add it to the Taskbar:
First of all, we need to create a shortcut on the desktop. Right click anywhere on the desktop screen and select New – Shortcut from the drop down list.
In the Create Shortcut wizard, enter in the following text for ‘location of items’: explorer.exe shell:RecycleBinFolder
Select Next to continue.
On the following page you need to provide a name for the short cut. You can call it Recycle Bin or something else like Trash or Garbage if you prefer… whatever floats your boat! For our example we decide to name it ‘Trash’. Select Finish.
The Shortcut has now been created on the Desktop. Now the shortcut needs to resemble a Recycle Bin! Right click the Shortcut and select Properties from the drop down list.
In the Shortcut tab, click on Change Icon.
In the textbox for “look for icons in this file” paste in the following text: %SystemRoot%\system32\imageres.dll
A new batch of icons should appear in the window below the text box. Select the Recycle Bin icon. Click on OK.
When you return to the Shortcut tab, select Apply and OK. The properties dialog box closes.
Your shortcut will now look like a Recycle Bin. Excellent! You can either drag the shortcut to the taskbar or right click it and select ‘Pin to Taskbar’.
Now your Recycle Bin is on the Taskbar! Simple!
Unfortunately you cannot drag files to this Recycle Bin but you can select it which opens it in Windows Explorer.
