How to add a Gmail account to an iPad

For people who want to add their Gmail account onto their iPad, this guide will show you how to do this in two ways. You can configure your Gmail account through the Gmail app itself or by using the mail application built into the iPad.

Add your Gmail account using the Gmail app

If you haven’t downloaded the Gmail app already, navigate to the Apple store.

Find the Gmail app and select Get to download it. Once downloaded, launch the app.

Open the Gmail appIn the Gmail app, Click Sign In.

You are taken to the Google Sign in page. Enter in your email address and tap Next.

Enter in your password and click Next.

You may experience the information window below titled ‘New Account Features’.

You can scroll down and select Ask Me Later or I Agree. Either option won’t prevent you from setting up your Gmail account. For our example, we select I Agree.

Your Gmail account is now synching to your Gmail app on your iPad.

Add your Gmail account using the inbuilt Mail app

On the iPad main screen, navigate to Settings.

In the Settings menu, scroll to Mail and press it.

Click Add Account

In the drop down list, select Google

You are taken to the Google sign in page on the iPad default web browser, enter in the relevant email address and press Next.

Type in the password and press Next.

You may experience the information window below titled ‘New Account Features’.

You can scroll down and select Ask Me Later or I Agree. Either option won’t prevent you from setting up your Gmail account. For our example, we select I Agree.

You can toggle the options to sync your Contacts, Calendars and Notes as well or simply leave the configuration as is with just your mail synched. Press Save when you are ready.

Your Gmail account will start synching to your iPad.

If you ever want to go back to your account when on the iPad, simply select the Mail icon. Wow… we sure have alot of unread emails!
