In a nutshell, EaseUS ToDo backup is a program that essential performs file-image and system-image based backups. This review explores new features of the recently released EaseUS To Do Backup version 5.0. If you would like a more thorough review on EaseUS To Do backup program, please refer to our review on EaseUS To Do Backup 4.5 which can be found here.
EaseUS ToDo Backup Version 5.0 comes equipped with a number of new features that are listed as follows:
1. Mass storage devices, up to and including 2TB+ are now supported
2. Backup a particular file type in a certain folder, avoiding time consuming and mundane task.
3. Tweaked interface that is easier to use for performing backups and recovery
4. Compatibility with Windows 8
5. Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express backup and restore*
6. Backup/restore files in Libraries under System 7*
*These two features are only included with the paid EaseUS ToDo Backup 5.0 ($39). They are not available in the free version.
A noteworthy new feature, available on the free and paid version, is the ability to select a file type and backup any folders containing this extension into a particular folder. The older versions of EaseUS To Do Backup required the user to have to manually configure the files they would like to backup to a particular folder. For users who had a substantial amount of files and folders that ranged to terabyte in size (1000mb) this process would become tiresome and monotonous. We tested this new feature and were very impressed with the simplicity and efficiency of the whole process. For your interest, the procedure is shown below:
Click Data backup (file, Disk/Partition) on the homescreen
Select the dropdown menu on the File tab and click File type.
Several templates appear which include Documents, Email, Music and Pictures or you can configure your own file collections if you prefer. For our example, we decide to back up Document and Picture file types from My Documents folder. Click Proceed to continue.
Backup of your chosen file types completes after a few minutes. Done!
For users who prefer to purchase the paid EaseUS ToDo 5.0 version, the ability to back up and restore email based files from Microsoft Outlook/Outlook Express is quite a handy tool if you have accidentially deleted emails. For those who are more computer savvy, we hope that in the future EaseUS broadens their horizons for this feature by providing a more integrated email backup option such as selected program settings and registry settings.
EaseUS ToDo Backup’s newest edition is packed with new features to enhance its performance and meet customer demands and is very reasonably priced. Recommended.
