If a user does not have a DHCP server they are unable to connect to the internet via Local Area Connection. In this case, Automatic Private IP Addressing (APIPA) is usually implemented.
Navigate to Start – Control Panel – Network and Internet – Network and Sharing Centre. Select Local Area Connection.
The Local Area Connection Status dialog box displays. Select Properties.
In the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box, highlight Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP) and select Properties.
The Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box appears. Click the radio button Obtain an IP address automatically. Select OK.
You are returned to the Local Area Connection Properties dialog box. Click Close.
You are returned to the Local Area Connection Status dialog box. Click Close.
Your local area connection should now successfully connect to the internet.
