AOMEI Backupper is an interactive, fully featured, easy to use program to back up, restore or clone your drives.

AOMEI has developed Backupper which is a free professional software to perform backup and recovery operations. It has an easy to use interface and elementary layout that makes it very appealing to computer users with any level of expertise in the field. Furthermore, AOMEI Backupper is supported in Windows (XP/Vista/7/8) and Windows Server (2003/2008/2011/2012) in both 32-bit and 64-bit which is definitely a bonus for either server Administrators at businesses or home users.

It has a graphical user interface which makes it particularly user friendly for novice or inexperienced computer users. The layout is again similar to other Office products with the functions available listed on the left and menu items listed on the top. The middle pane shows further detail about the specific function you have selected. For example, when you first open the main interface, the home page shows when you performed your last back up (if you have performed one already) and presents the option of performing a new backup.

To perform a backup is straightforward. You can either select the option of creating a new backup from the Home page or navigate to the Backup section. For our example, we chose to create a disk backup.

Select the disk drive(s) you would like to backup (Step 1) and your backup destination drive (Step 2). You can also configure the requirements of your backup, such as, compression and encryption by selecting Backup Options. Click Start Backup to commence the operation.

The backup should take around 30 mins to a few hours depending on the size of the disk drive(s) you selected. For users who commence their backup before going to bed or who do not have the time to wait hours for a backup to finish; you can also choose to shut down your computer after the operation is complete by ensuring the checkbox is ticked.

After the backup is complete you can find the backup image in the Restore section or on the Home screen (until a new backup is performed).

Volume Shadow Service

A noteworthy feature of the AOMEI Backupper is that it supports VSS (Volume Shadow Service) which  was developed by Microsoft. This means that the program can operate essentially in the background without interfering or slowing down with the running of other applications you are working on at the time.

Schedule Backups and insert Comments

A recently added feature is the ability to Schedule Backups (Day, Month or Year) and adding comments.

On the Backup page, select ‘Schedule Off’.

In the Schedule Backup Settings page, you can configure when you want your backups to occur.

Furthermore, you can indicate what kind of backup you want performed (full, incremental or differential).

To make comments, select Backup Options in the Backup Page.

In the Backup Setting section, write a description for your particular back up (as shown in image) in the Comments.

Compatible Storage Devices

The application supports all storage devices that is recognized by Windows such as USB, SSD, IDE, SATA SCSI, NAS & Hardware RAID and can fully function for drives larger than 2TB. Furthermore, it also supports either MBR & GPT style and UEFI boot.

If you are having an issue with the program and require further assistance, you can navigate to AOMEI’s support section on their website. A variety of guides are available to be freely accessed, particularly: User Manuals, Tutorials, FAQs and Customer Case Studies. However, if you are unable to resolve your problem, you can also email them via support@aomeitech.com.
